77% Fewer Deep Pocket Sites: Our Co-Founder’s Experience with NovaTabz

After almost a decade of bleeding gums and periodontal concerns, our co-founder Seb returned to his dental hygienist with something to feel encouraged about. His latest chart showed 11 red-highlighted measurement sites, compared with 48 in December 2024—a reduction of approximately 77%.

By that October 2026 appointment, he had been brushing exclusively with NovaTabz as his toothpaste for approximately six months.

Seb personally believes switching to NovaTabz helped his gums improve. For him, the result made a product he had helped create feel even more personal.

A decade of gum concerns

For years, bleeding gums and periodontal pockets had been recurring concerns at Seb’s dental appointments.

In December 2024, his periodontal chart brought those concerns into focus: 48 measurement sites were highlighted, recording depths of 4 mm or more.

Periodontal measurements describe the space between a tooth and the surrounding gum. In a healthy mouth, those measurements are usually between 1 and 3 mm. Deeper readings warrant attention, alongside other findings such as bleeding and loss of supporting tissue. National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research

Seb decided to take a closer look at his routine—including something he put in his mouth twice every day.

His toothpaste.

The question that helped inspire NovaTabz

Seb began researching toothpaste formulations and the purpose of their ingredients. He looked into foaming agents such as sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS), preservatives, and the abrasives used to help clean teeth.

He wondered whether his toothpaste was a good fit for his mouth, particularly if an ingredient was contributing to irritation.

That question was reasonable: some toothpaste ingredients, including SLS and parabens, have been reported to cause irritation or allergic reactions in susceptible people. But sensitivity is individual, and this does not establish that these ingredients caused Seb’s periodontal problems. Abrasives also serve a useful cleaning function; their presence alone does not make a toothpaste harmful. American Dental Association

For Seb, this research became motivation to develop an alternative he wanted to use himself.

Over the following months, he worked on that idea part-time. In 2026, he and Alex launched NovaTabz™.

Six months of brushing with NovaTabz

NovaTabz became Seb’s everyday toothpaste.

The routine was simple: place a tablet in the mouth, chew and brush.

For approximately six months leading up to October 2026, he used NovaTabz exclusively as his toothpaste. Then he returned to the same dental hygienist for another periodontal examination.

The comparison with his earlier chart was striking.

Examination Red-highlighted measurement sites
December 11, 2024 48
October 20, 2026 11

Thirty-seven fewer highlighted sites. Approximately 77% fewer than before.

These figures come from counting the highlighted measurement boxes in photographs of the original charts. Each box represents a measured site, rather than a whole tooth. The percentage describes fewer sites in the highlighted depth range—not a 77% reduction in the depth of every pocket.

The comparison spans December 2024 to October 2026; the approximately six months of NovaTabz use fall within that period.

An appointment worth remembering

Seb recalls his dental hygienist being surprised and very pleased by the improvement.

According to his recollection, she described the change as remarkable, particularly because he had not undergone a dedicated course of periodontal treatment. She also commented that the gum tissue appeared to have recovered around the teeth.

After years of concern, that feedback meant a great deal.

Seb credits NovaTabz with helping him move in a better direction. Seeing the change documented in his charts strengthened his personal confidence in the product he and Alex had created.

What the improvement means

Fewer deeper measurements are an encouraging observation. Understanding exactly what changed requires a dental professional’s assessment.

When inflammation settles, swollen gums can change in size and the measured pocket depth can decrease. Changes in the gum margin or supporting attachment can also affect readings. A chart comparison alone cannot confirm that lost gum tissue or bone has regenerated.

Nor can Seb’s experience isolate the effect of toothpaste from brushing technique, cleaning between the teeth, professional care or other influences.

This is a personal experience with NovaTabz, rather than clinical proof that NovaTabz treats periodontal disease. That distinction does not diminish how meaningful the appointment was to Seb. It keeps the story faithful to what he experienced and what the records can show.

Why we’re sharing this

NovaTabz grew partly out of a personal search for a different way to care for teeth every day.

For Seb, using the product and subsequently receiving encouraging feedback about his gums brought that story full circle. He believes the switch helped, and he will continue monitoring his gum health with his dental team.
